Easter Monday -
and the proud father
of the blackbird family
sings
while his wife hops around below
to garner some food
for the growing family.

He sits
at the top of the tree
above the tulips -
their colours signs
of the prolific
horticultural know-how
of humans.

Today they, too, sing -
deep within -
of that extraordinary
icon of love
they have known again
in the breaking of the bread -
in Jesus the Lord.

Like the blackbird -
there is the impetus
both private and public
to share this treasure
growing
like leaven within;
but how? -

- the music
that courses through
their veins,
anticipates the desire
to allow the inner
icon of love within
to shine out

- to strangers -
in silent song;
and receive back
the beauty of each person's
own presence to be linked -
in relationship -
with the Lord of life.
